March 6 - Adelaide & Gawler

We took the train into Adelaide, it was easy and fun.  We had to walk about a block to the train station, they travel fairly frequently and we had a schedule so not much waiting.  It took an hour to get to the centre of the City.   It cost $8.30 each for a return trip ticket and that included all of the bus riding and also the trams within the city limits.  I thought that was a very good deal.  A very beautiful city it is too!  The high rises are not very high and the streets are very wide (about 6 lanes of traffic) so you get a feeling of open spaces.  There was a lot going on when we arrived.  Something called the Fringe Festival.  Lots of concerts, mostly people we haven't heard of but that is because we are not in the know...There were a lot of bands there from Britain and, of course, around Australia.  We wandered around downtown looking at all the sights and let me tell you, we saw a few:

she even left a slug trail in her wake.

can you imagine walking around like that all day!
There were some really nice things to see also:

A beautiful fountain in the downtown square.

We caught a free bus, it was the first solar, electric bus in the world.  A very quiet ride.  The bus driver was great, he pointed out all of the historical buildings and gave us lots of tips about what to do and where to go.  We spent about 2 hours on the bus, he took us all around two of his routes.   When we got off the bus, it was raining slightly so we wandered back to the Train Station as it also housed the Casino...we spent a couple of hours and $50.00 there, had dinner and took the train back to Gawler.  A few stops before ours there was a little excitement.  A group of 9 year old boys threw a brick and hit a young girl in the head.  Someone ran to the train because in the evening there is security so our security officer and a few police were hanging around the train talking to people, etc.  It only delayed us by about 10 minutes.

One of the old buildings in Adelaide.  We both liked it so wanted to share it.
